Navigating the Transfer Portal with Strategy, Not Emotion.
As the transfer portal approached, Richie Anderson III had already generated interest from multiple college football programs. While new opportunities were beginning to emerge, the decision was never simply about changing schools. It was about determining which path would best position him to achieve his ultimate goal of playing in the NFL.
Richie was initially reluctant to leave Fresno State. He was comfortable with his role, had developed strong relationships with the coaching staff, and valued the environment he had established within the program.
Leaving Fresno State was not the objective. Finding the best opportunity for Richie’s future was.
Richie and his family trusted SSE to guide them through every phase of the transfer portal process. Rather than allowing recruiting attention, financial offers or outside noise to dictate the decision, SSE created a structured strategy centered on Richie’s long-term development.
The Objective
Replace emotion and uncertainty with data, strategy and opportunity.
SSE communicated with programs from each of the Power 4 conferences while also evaluating opportunities outside of those leagues. This broad outreach allowed the team to properly assess Richie’s market value and understand how he was viewed by different coaching staffs and offensive systems.
Throughout the process, SSE remained in daily communication with Richie and his family. Every conversation, development, and potential opportunity was reviewed together so the family could move forward with clarity and confidence.
SSE developed market opportunity scorecards to help Richie and his family compare each potential destination objectively. The evaluation went far beyond the headline compensation number.
By organizing each opportunity through the same evaluation framework, Richie and his family could compare schools based on substance rather than assumptions, recruiting pitches or short-term emotion.
SSE staff accompanied Richie and his family on campus during the recruiting process, helping them evaluate the program beyond the standard visit presentation. Every conversation was measured against the priorities established at the beginning of the search.
Through this process, SSE surfaced an opportunity at Texas A&M for Richie to become the Aggies’ top tight end addition from the transfer portal.
Texas A&M’s coaching vision, offensive opportunity, competitive environment and commitment to player development aligned most closely with what Richie was seeking. The program provided an opportunity to compete at the highest level of college football while continuing to develop toward a future in the NFL.
Once the right football opportunity was identified, SSE negotiated an NIL agreement worth up to eight times what Richie had received during the previous season.
The result was not simply a larger financial package. It was a comprehensive opportunity that aligned Richie’s football development, compensation, personal priorities and long-term professional goals.
For SSE, success was measured by placing Richie in an environment designed to accelerate his development and prepare him for the next level.
